The secret of “Montrachet”
Montrachet, lovely small hill between Puligny and Chassagne where are produced an white wine among the most famous of Burgundy, is the cradle of family secrets which cross centuries thanks to the name given to the local great vintages. During the Crusade period, the infidelity of the chatelain Montrachet gave birth to a boy, half-brother to the legitimate heir the knight Montrachet who had left to free the holy city. When he died, the chatelain introduced his second son as the legal successor who were greeted with “Welcome to the bastard Montrachet!”
Next time you choose a “Montrachet”, will you buy the “Chevalier Montrachet” or the “Bâtard Montrachet”? Don't worry, both are excellent wines!
